First of all we want to thank everyone who attended the fourth edition of Swingers Club. We had a really good time and the music was ace from the beginning ’till the early hours. Big respect to the Mind Warp DJs: Exalt & Lt. Ludwig and WPH headhoncho: Red D.

We don’t have any more events planned for the near future, but we still can be your musical companion for the upcoming spring and summer months. We’ve listed up some nice mixtapes from Swingers Club residents and affiliates.

The first mixtape is from Liss., who is an allround nice guy from Sint-Truiden. He played at our very first party by the way. I had asked him to do a mixtape already a long time ago, in a time when this blog was more flourishing than now, and he finally recorded something. It was a bit unexpected, but I immediatly knew that it would be a mixtape with a good ‘feel’ and a great track selection. The mix is probably a bit housier and deeper than the mixes I’ve posted here before, but you should all know by now that we don’t like to think in boxes. You can expect tracks from Chez Damier, Manuel Tur and others.

After receiving the mix from Liss., I thought it would be a good opportunity to post some other stuff as well. Leroy, one of our residents, had recently released a new mixtape too. You can find it here. A selection of Disco, House and funk just as we like it! And why don’t you check out his former mix too. Same recipe, other ingredients.

Tibson, the newest Swingers resident, made a tape too. Already a couple of months ago actually, but it still sounds fresh to our ears! You can check it out at his soundcloud-page. Lovely mix that ends up pretty housy too!

Mind Warp, the radioshow from Exalt and Lt. Ludwig is now re-listenable online. It’s in Dutch, but most of the time they’ll let the music speak for itself. You will certainly enjoy their selection of new and old tunes, you might even spot some damn hard to find disco nuggets and old school electro classics!

And last and maybe also least, I started something new a couple of months ago: Beyond The Clouds. The first un-mix, un-mix because it isn’t really mixed, is a selection of very slow balearic tracks, jazz, mood music and other more obscure pieces of music. You can listen to the tape here.

By the way, we got some DJ-gig news too: Leroy & Tibson will open up Decadance (Ghent) on the We Play House Recordings labelnight on May the 6th. We, King & Cousin, will play at Café AperO on Sunday the 15th of May for the season ending of Elaba, Raoul Lambert‘s own boogie nights. It will not only be the season-ending of the Elaba-concept, it will also be an ending of an era for us, as it will probably be the last gig in Leuven as students. Leuven has been our homebase for about 6 years, but it’s time to move on now.

Enjoy listening and maybe we’ll catch each other on one of those two special occasions!

For our 4th edition we invited Red D, who is the head honcho of the infamous but critically acclaimed label ‘We Play House Recordings’. Bart aka Red D is playing all over Europe for the moment and his label is supported by all major house dj’s around the world. You might know him from his fantastic house sets together with Lady Linn on one of your favorite big summerfestivals too..
So why should we’ve been searching for an international act, if we could find such quality in our own backyard.
Our second guests are local heroes ‘Exalt‘ and ‘Lt. Ludwig’ aka Viktor Bodrovski, hosts of the radioshow ‘Mind Warp’ on Radio Scorpio. These guys are real ‘music connaisseurs’, so we’re really happy to have them!

Support by our Swingers Club Residents: Tibson, Leroy and King & Cousin.

We’re very happy to inform you about a new monthly partyconcept in Ghent ‘No Way Back’. This Saturday, the 12th, is the first edition with an incredible line-up! The guys from No Way Back invited both Tim Sweeney (from Beats In Space) and JG Wilkes (from Optimo Espacio)! The party is organised by resident dj’s Down+Out, who are better known as Garreth Mc Mullan and The Michael. Garreth did a mixtape to celebrite the first edition, which you can find here. Forthcoming guests on No Way Back are Todd Terje, Drop Out Orchestra and Jacques Renault. Their goal is to raise Ghent Nightlife to old hights. Well, it all looks very promising to us!

The next edition of our party concept ‘Swingers Club’ is due on Thursday March the 31st at our favorite venue in Leuven ‘Rumba & Co’. We’ll announce our headliner soon, so keep an eye on our facebook-page!

It’s been a while, but we finally recorded a new mixtape. Like always it is a one-take vinyl only mix. There are some very new ones in it, some classics and some of our 2010 favorites.

It’s been a while since we’ve posted something, time and inspiration are precious things! Anyway, like every year we’re doing a ‘best of 2010′ list. A list that contains all our favorite ‘dancefloor’-killers of the latest 12 months. Last year we did a ridiculously long list of 50 records, so this year we tried to keep it as short as possible, only our 10 favorites. It wasn’t very difficult to pick out five or six incredible records, but seperating the ‘good’ from the ‘very good’ wasn’t always easy. There are probably some surprises (although not to many we suppose) but like every year there are some tracks that really deserved more attention.

Our track of the year is the titletrack of Aeroplane‘s debut album ‘We Can’t Fly’. What a vibe and what a production. A 100 bpm summer reggae-disco stomper that made us smile everytime we heard it. Too bad that the rest of the album could not compete with this stand-out track.

Number two is ‘Beam Me Up’ by a relatively new act called Midnight Magic. Most dj’s preferred the Jacques Renault remix, which we couldn’t really understand because the original version is an incredible disco track with absolutely great vocals and a tremendous catchy bassline.

At number three you can find ‘the nu-disco track of 2010′: Tensnake‘s ‘Coma Cat’. Released in January on Permanent Vacation, but later on the year picked up by Defected. You could even hear it on Belgian national radio.. Do we need to say more?

Our own Belgian house-pride FCL, which is San Soda and WPH-labelboss Red D made it to number four with their instant old school house classic ‘Let’s Go’. Incredible house record that you really should have in your bag!

We reserved number five for a relatively underestimated record: Chmmr with ‘Love Will Lead U Back’. We didn’t heard many fuzz around this track, haven’t heard any other dj playing or charting it.  Which is very strange, because it’s an incredible piano-house track with very catchy percussion. We saw a lot of smiling faces when playing this one!

Another track that didn’t got the attention it deserved is ‘Crazy Meera’ by Red Fulka.  Hard to descripe this record, but you certainly should take a listen to it. It has also that warm summery vibe in it (maybe we’re just longing for the summer).

For number seven we choosed ‘Look Into My Eyes’ that was released early this year on DFA. Ray Mang‘s own version of the classic Tangerine Dream track. Very dreamy, very beautiful version!

Another usual suspect in the end-of-the-year-lists is Morgan Geist. In 2010 he came up with a new moniker ‘Storm Queen’ and released the fantastic ‘Look Right Through’. Morgan Geist equals quality, we know that by now.

At nine we find the first edit of our chart. There were a lot of edits released in 2010; which actually means a lot of crap and a few exceptional great ones. Dr. Dunks – No P’s is one of those rare great ones. Very nice groove in this one, Dolly Parton was never so hot as in 2010!

Another edit at number 10: Justin Vandervolgen put himself really on the edit-map. Most of his output was high quality stuff, certainly ‘Get To My Baby’ under his Try To Find Me alter ego on Golf Channel.

1. Aeroplane – We Can’t Fly (Extended Drums Mix) [ESKIMO]

2. Midnight Magic – Beam Me Up [PERMANENT VACATION]

3. Tensnake – Coma Cat [PERMANENT VACATION]

4. FCL – Let’s Go [WE PLAY HOUSE RECORDINGS]

5. CHMMR – Love Will Lead U Back [LUNAFLICKS]

6. Red Fulka – Crazy Meera [ELEVATOR PEOPLE]

7. Ray Mang – Look Into My Eyes [DFA RECORDS]

8. Storm Queen – Look Right Through (Vox) [ENVIRON]

9. Dr. Dunks – No P’s [KEEP IT CHEAP]

10. Try To Find Me – Get To My Baby [GOLF CHANNEL]

We hope y’all had a great 2010 and we wish you all the best for the new year! Feel free to comment with your own charts by the way..

We’re back in business after a, pretty long, summer break but we’ve got good news for y’all. We’re throwing another party: Tuesday the 19th of October is a date you should all mark in your agendas!

Like we promised on our first flyer we at Swingers Club would provide our parties with local heroes and national superstars. After 2 rather succesful editions that goal is almost (completely) achieved. We invited Belgian stars like Compuphonic, King DJ aka 4T4, Cook-E & Matik and young talents like Liss., Cauchy and Leroy (The latter even became co-host of our parties.)

For our 3th edition we go even further: our headliner is both a local hero and an (inter)national superstar. We’re talking about RAOUL LAMBERT of course! He knows the Rumba-dancefloor better than anyone else, he has an incredible eclectic record collection and he leaves everyone behind in terms of dj-skills. So that is briefly why he is our man for our 3th edition!

Also on the bill are MEN & MACHINES (Two dj’s, radioshow-hosts and party-organizers from Glasgow.) And you can already hear it, these guys breath music! Their parties are held in the heart of Glasgow at Stereo Club. They already played along dj’s as: Optimo, Serge Santiago, Pantha Du Prince and DFA acts like Shit Robot & Gavin Russom. So, we’re really proud to have them on their first visit to Belgium!

The line-up will be completed by our resident crew: KING & COUSIN, LEROY and TIBSON.

KING & COUSIN are the founders of Swingers Club and for this 3th edition they will open the night. They already played at events such as 10 Days Off & Laundry Day and in clubs like Libertine Supersport & Café Capital and their mixes were already broadcasted on Pure FM & Radio Scorpio. They will carefully select some smooth records to get y’all in the mood!

LEROY already played at every Swingers Club party and has become co-host of the party. At the time of our first party Leroy was barely 18 years old, but we saw a lot of potential in this guy! Today it seems that we’re not the only believers, even the people from Studay, a big open-air party in Antwerp acknowledge Leroy‘s good taste and great skills!

TIBSON is the newest Swingers-crew member. This 19 year old is maybe not the most experienced dj on the bill but he compensates that with a big dose of enthusiasm! Tibson is probably the most deep/tech-house oriënted dj of the crew, but his musical universe goes far beyond Detroit and Berlin, as he also likes to dig up some disco grooves from time to time. You’ll catch him behind the turntables in the early hours..
